Abstract

Background: The aim of this study was to compare the phase transformation temperatures and cyclic fatigue resistances of WaveOne Gold, Reciproc Blue and North Profa RC Blue nickel titanium (NiTi) instruments at body temperature. Methods: In this study 12 WaveOne Gold, 12 Reciproc Blue and 12 North Profa RC Blue rotary system NiTi files were used. All instruments were used in a static cyclic fatigue testing device, which has an artificial ceramic canal with a radius of curvature of 5 mm, an angle of curvature of 60° and a 1,4 mm inner diameter at 37°C until the fracture occurred. The time to failure of the files was recorded using a digital chronometer and the number of cycles to failure of files were calculated. Non-normally distributed data were analyzed by Kruskal-Wallis H test. Weibull analysis was performed to determine the estimated survival rate. Results: There was no statistically significant difference between the North Profa RC Blue group and the Reciproc Blue group, and between the Reciproc Blue group and the WaveOne Gold group in terms of cyclic fatigue resistance (p>0.05). Cyclic fatigue resistance of North Profa RC Blue group was statistically higher than WaveOne Gold group (p<0.05). SEM images taken from fractured surfaces confirmed that the instrument fracture occurred as the result of cyclic fatigue. Conclusion: In this study, no difference was found between the cyclic fatigue resistances of North Profa RC Blue and Reciproc Blue instruments, while the cyclic fatigue resistance of the WaveOne Gold instruments was found to be lower than the North Profa RC Blue. © 2021, Selcuk University.
