Publication: Depreme Maruz Kalmış ve Kalmamış İlkokul Öğrencilerinin Deprem ve Sosyal Hayat Algısının Çocuk Resimleri ile İncelenmesi
Abstract
The general purpose of this research is to examine the earthquake and social life perceptions of primary school students who were and were not exposed to an earthquake through children's drawings. This examination is addressed under four sub-problems. The research was designed in accordance with the phenomenology design, which is a qualitative research method. The universe of the research consists of earthquake-affected students who settled in schools in the Atakum district of Samsun and the Saçaklı district of Hatay in the 2023-2024 academic year and students who were not earthquake-affected in schools in the Atakum district of Samsun. The sample group consists of 152 students who were exposed to an earthquake and 189 students who were not exposed to an earthquake. Participant observation, content analysis, drawings and field notes were used as data collection tools. The necessary permissions were obtained from the Ministry of National Education in order to collect the data to be used in the research. Students were asked a question that would reflect their perceptions of earthquake and social life and were asked to draw pictures. As a result of the questions asked, students carried out their work using the free drawing technique. In this way, all data were collected from five different schools. The obtained data were divided into certain codes and themes according to the content analysis method and tabulated and interpreted. As a result of the findings, it was seen that students who were exposed to earthquakes gave more space to earthquakes in their drawings. In addition, it was determined that students who were not exposed to earthquakes also addressed this theme, but some students also presented works that were far from this theme. All these similarities and differences were reflected in the codes and themes used by the students. As a result, it was seen that there were significant differences in the drawings of students who were and were not exposed to earthquakes.
