Abstract
IV ASTRACT The aim of the study was to determine the effect of fresh and reused different litter materials (wood shaving, rice hull+hazelnut husk, hazelnut husk, wheat stalks and rice hulls) on broiler performance and the litter properties in two apart trial. In the first trial average body weight, the litter relative moisture at the age of 7th week as fallows; 2493.±20.53, 2458.09±20.42, 2417.47±20.43, 2491.68±20.37, and 2453.67±20.34 g; 30.77±2.12%, 33.26±0.43%, 36.37±1.05%, 28.74±1.93%. and 30.77±1.03% for the groups respectively, and the effect of litter materials on body weight and litter relative moisture values were significant (P<0.05). However feed conversion, production indices, and dressing percentage were determined as fallows; 2.2U0.04, 2.19±0.02, 2.18±0.04, 2.15±0.01, and 2.14±0.01; 207.45±7.31, 204.94+10.34, 205.44±12.91, 201.06±3.09, and 208.85±8.66; 73.89±0.91%, 73.53±0.40%, 73.85±0.30%, 74.04±0.37%, and 74.46±0.37% above respectively, and there were no significant differences among feed conversion, production indices, and dressing percentage (P>0.05). Mortality rates 9.3%, 10.0%, 10.0%, 14.0%, and 11.3% were determined respectively, and groups reared on wheat stalks had higher mortality rather than other groups. The same litter materials used in the first trial were reused in the second trial, and body weight, feed conversion, production indices, dressing percentage, litter relative moisture values were determined as fallows; 2499.36±18.74, 2490.06±18.75, 2453. 08±1 8.89, 2480.68±19.05, and 2473.87±18.94 g; 2.00±0.03, 1.99+0.03, 2.00±0.02, 2.06±0.02, and 2.03±0.04; 257.05±9.26, 254.08±6.69, 250.92±7.85, 233.15±5.35, and 238.50±12.68; %74.90±0.29, %75.68±0.88, %74.38±0.63, %75.68±0.40, and %74.62±0.38; %30.93±1.06, %30.77±0.89, %32.21±1.19, %31.42±1.04, and %32.10±1.97 respectively. Body weight, feed conversion, dressing percentage, production indices, litter relative moisture values, production indices were not affected by reused litter types (P>0.05). Mortality rates 0.0%, 0.7%, 0.7%, 5.3% ve 2.7% were determined respectively, on the groups reared on the wheat stalks had higher mortality rates than other groups. The evidence of the breast blister and leg abnormalities were not found serious problems in both trial.
