Görsel Araçlarla Okuma Metinlerinin Genç Öğrencilerin İngilizce Düzeyini Geliştirmesine Etkileri

Abstract

Bu deneysel çalışma yabancı dilde çocuklara okuma öğretiminde görsel araç kullanımının olumlu etkilerini ortaya çıkarmak amacıyla yürütülmüştür. Çalışmanın evrenini Samsun ili ilçesi'nde öğretim yapan ilköğretim okulları çocuklara yabancı dil sınıfları, örneklemini ise Ayvacık Mustafa Üstündağ Yatılı İlköğretim Bölge Okulu altıncı sınıf öğrencileri oluşturmaktadır. Bu çalışmada 24'er kişiden oluşan bir deney grubu ve bir kontrol grubu bulunmaktadır. Verilerin analizinde t-test tekniği kullanılmıştır. Bu çalışma beş bölümden oluşmaktadır. Birinci bölüm araştırmanın problemini, amacını, hipotezini, sınırlılıklarını ve metodunu açıklayan giriş bölümünden oluşmaktadır. İkinci bölüm ise yabancı dilde okuma öğretiminde kullanılan strateji, teknik ve yöntemler ve okuma dersinin üç aşaması ile ilgilidir. Üçüncü bölüm genç ve yetişkin öğrenciler arasındaki farklar ve genç öğrencilere görsel araçlar kullanarak yabancı dilde okuma öğretimi hakkında bilgi verir. Dördüncü bölüm araştırmanın metodunu içermektedir. Beşinci bölüm deney verilerinin analizini içermektedir. Son olarak altıncı bölüm sonuçlar ve diğer çalışmalar için önerileri içermektedir. Verilerin değerlendirilmesi sonucunda ön ve son test arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir fark bulunmuştur. Elde edilen bulgular öğrencilerin okuma becerilerinde kullanılan etkinliklere karşı olumlu tutum geliştirdiklerini ve dil seviyelerinin geliştiğini göstermektedir.This experimental study has been conducted in order to see the positive effects of visual materials in teaching reading to young learners. The population of the experiment is EFL classes for young learners in secondary schools within a district of the country of Samsun, and the sample of the research is the 6th graders at Ayvacık Mustafa Üstündağ Yatılı İlköğretim Bölge Okulu. This study has an experimental and the control group which consist each of 24 students. In order to evaluate the obtained data, the t-test has been used. This study consists of six chapters. The first chapter is an introduction to the study which explains the problem, aim, hypothesis, limitations and the method of the study. The second chapter is about strategies, techniques and methods for teaching reading, and three phases in a reading lesson. The third chapter gives information about the differences between young and adult learners, and teaching reading through visual materials to young learners. The fourth chapter includes the method of the research. The fifth chapter includes the data analysis of the experiment. Finally the sixth chapter includes concluding remarks and suggestions for further studies. As a result of the data analysis, a statistically significant difference has been found between pre and post-tests. These findings show that the students have developed a positive attitude towards the activities used in reading skills and their level of language has been improved.
