John Stuart Mill'in Faydacı Feminizmi

Abstract

Bu yüksek lisans çalışmasında John Stuart Mill'in toplumsal cinsiyet eşitsizliğinin temelleri konusundaki görüşlerini tespit edeceğiz ve bu eşitsizliğe karşı kadınların özgürleştirilmesi için sunduğu faydacı çözümleri değerlendireceğiz. Mill cinsiyet eşitliğini; kadınların da eşit toplumsal ve siyasi haklara sahip olması gerekliliğini tüm insanların sahip olduğu ortak bir doğa temelinde savunmamaktadır. Kendi faydacı ve liberal görüşleri doğrultusunda, kadınların özgürleştirilmesi gerektiğini çünkü ancak bu koşulda bireysel ve toplumsal iyileşmenin (fayda) sağlanabileceğini savunur. Dolayısıyla, öncelikle Mill'in faydacılık kuramı, kuramın kökeni, çoğunluğun mutluluğu ilkesi ve insanlığın iyileştirilmesi ideali açıklanacaktır. Mill'in eşitliği kadın, erkek ya da insan doğası fikri yerine özgürlüğü temel alarak talep ettiği düşünüldüğünde tez Mill'in özgürlük anlayışını çözümleyecektir. Bu çözümleme kadınların sahip olduğu sosyal kimlik içinde özgür olmadığına, hatta köleleştirildiğine dair kendi çağına yönelik eleştirileri ile devam edecektir. Burada Mill'in faydacı feminist görüşleri açıklık kazanmaktadır. Böylece tezin son bölümünde Mill'in feminist kuram tarihine yaptığı katkıları vurgulama imkânı olacak ve feminist kuramların kısa bir değerlendirilmesi de tezin kapsamına dahil edilmiş olacaktır.

In this thesis study, we will identify John Stuart Mill's views on the basis of gender inequality and evaluate the utilitarian solutions it offers to liberate women against this inequality. Mill does not advocate gender equality, that is, the need for women to have equal social and political rights, on the basis of a common nature that all people have. In line with his utilitarian and liberal views, he argues that women should be liberated because only in this condition can individual and social recovery be provided (benefit). Therefore, the utilitarian theory of Mill, its origin, the principle of happiness of the majority and the ideal for the improvement of humanity will be explained. Considering that Mill is based on freedom rather than the idea of women, men or people ' nature ', the thesis will resolve Mill's understanding of freedom. This analysis will continue with criticism of his own age that women are not free or even enslaved in the social identity he has. Mill's utilitarian feminist views are clarified here. Thus, in the last part of the thesis, there will be the opportunity to highlight Mill's contributions to the history of feminist theory, and a brief evaluation of feminist theories will be included in the scope of the thesis.
