Abstract

The spectrum of ocular injuries caused by gunshot wounds is enormous, ranging from a curable, simple contusion to serious cases resulting blindness with an direct or indirect effect. In this paper, formation of cataract with indirect effect of the gunshot pellet without any contact to the globe and other ocular findings were presented. A 21-year-old male patient was admitted to the hospital with cranial trauma and loss of consciousness after suicidal attemption with gunshot. The ophthalmic examination revealed conjunctival edema, subconjunctival hemorrhage, corneal edema and hyphema in his right eye. Direct skull radiographs and computerized tomography scans of the brain and orbit showed that the bullet had penetrated the right mandibula and then went through upper medial orbital wall and left the skull from right frontal bone. After 3 days, reduction of corneal edema and hyphema with rapidly developing cataract was observed. about 55 year old female cadaver. Such anomalies are important clinically to the treating surgeon, being a tendon of importance in normal function and surgeries of the foot. Functional significance and the clinical relevance of the variations are discussed. © Gülhane Askeri Tip Akademisi 2014.
