Abstract
AN INVESTIGATION ON PHYTOPLANKTON AND ALGAE OF COAST OF LAKE LADİK (LADİK-SAMSUN-TURKEY) ABSTRACT In this first study on Lake Ladik, algal flora (phytoplankton and litoral) of Lake Ladik and its seasonal variation were studied between June 2000 and May 2001. 102 of total 224 taxa were identified in algal flora belong to the divisio of Bacillariophyta, 72 to Chlorophyta, 36 to Euglenophyta, 11 to Cyanophyta, 2 to Cryptophyta and 1 to Dinophyta. Bacillariophyta was dominant involving 46 % of total species numbers, Chlorophyta members were subdominant in the phytoplankton, epilitic and epiphytic communities. While centric diatoms Cyclotella ocellata and Melosira distans were the most abundant species in these three communities, pennat diatomes Cymbella affinis, Licmophora gracilis var. anglica, Navicula cryptocephala, N. cryptocephala var. veneta, Nitzschia fonticola var. romana and Synedra ulna belong to Bacillariophyta have become common species on benthic algal flora. While Trachelomonas hispida and T. volvocina var. punctata (Euglenophyta), Cryptomonas ovata (Crytophyta) were common in these three communities, Pediastrum spp. and Scenedesmus spp. (Chlorophyta) and Chroococcus minor (Cyanophyta) were the most abundant species in phytoplankton. There was no significant difference between stations by means of seasonal variation and vertical distribution. The total numbers of organism in phytoplankton increased in December, November, February and May. Besides the algae on benthic zone increased in August, November, April and May. Lake Ladik was an eutrofic lake beacause of the variety of phytoplankton, morphometric structure, level of productivity and the other characteries. Key Words: Lake Ladik, algal flora, phytoplankton, epiphytic, epilitic, seasonal variation
