Abstract
n DETERMINATION OF TRACE AMOUNTS OF METALS IN SOME FOODSTUFFS BY AAS ABSTRACT In this study, a zinc piperazinedithiocarbamate compund (ZnPDC)which is insoluble in water and organic solvents was synthesised and used in the separation and preconcentration of some trace elements. Thus, using the solid-liquid extraction technique a method was developed for preconcentration of copper, cadmium and lead in edible oils. Determinations of the metals was carried out by FAAS and ETAAS. The method is based on the absorption of Cu (II), Cd (II) and Pb (II) in edible oil on to ZnPDC and elution of them with mercury (D) nitrate solution into aqueous phase and measurement of the final solutions by FAAS and ETAAS. It was observed that lineer respons were produced when the concentration of Cu (II), Cd (IT) and Pb (II) in final mercury (II) nitrate solution was about 0.1-8 mg/L (r2=0.9994), 0.1-3 mg/L (^=0.9979), 0.5-9 mg/L (r2=0.9994) respectively for FAAS and 2-10 ug/L (^=0.9957), 2-10 ug/L (r2=0.9972), 2-7 ug/L (^=0.9991) respectively for ETAAS. The detection limit was calculated for Cu, Cd and Pb as 0.043 mg/L, 0.028 mg/L, 0.011 mg/L respectively for FAAS. The determination limit was calculated for Cu, Cd and Pb as 0.171 mg/L, 0.074 mg/L, 0.279 mg/L respectively for FAAS and 13.24 ug/L, 7.33 ug/L, 12.62 ug/L respectively for ETAAS. The accuracy of the method was tested with standart oil sample (CONOSTAN). Determination of Cu, Cd and Pb was carried out in various edible oil samples. Key Words: Dithiocarbamate, edible oil, solid phase extraction, AAS, determination of copper, cadmium and lead.
