Abstract
In this review article; history of local anesthetics beginning with "cocaine", general effect mechanism, chemical structure, pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamical properties of local anesthetics were described. Mechanism, symptoms and treatment of the systemic toxic effect caused by local anesthetics were explained. In the last part of this article, the clinical and pharmacological properties of levobupivacaine which is a new local anesthetic were summarized with related studies on.
