A Case Report of Reversible Posterior Leukoencephalopathy Syndrome Associated with Severe Neurologic Dysfunction

Abstract

Reversible posterior leukoencephalopathy syndrome (RPLS) is a distinctive clinicoradiologic entity characterized by headache, altered mental function, seizures, loss of vision and predominantly posterior white matter changes on neuroimaging. Because of the reversibility of the signs without neurological sequel can be possible, if the underlying cause is solved promptly, the early diagnosis has crucial importance. We describe a patient with severe neurological dysfunction who developed RPLS secondary to acute renal failure and hypertension. The clinical findings and radiological abnormalities resolved completely with controlling of the blood pressure. With this case study, we anticipate in illustrating RPLS with an emphasis on the importance of the early diagnosis and appropriate treatment.
