Abstract
The crystal structure of 2-[Benzoyl(hydroxyimino)methyl-amino]benzoic acid was determined to find out the strength of the hydrogen-bonding capabilities of the oxime group. It was observed that the compound consists of a polymeric arrangement, around inversion centers, of molecules linked through O-H···N and O-H···O hydrogen bonds. It was suggested that the hydrogen bond interactions results in the formation of infinite chains parallel to the [010]direction. It was also suggested that the inter- and intramolecular hydrogen bonds in the compound are highly effective in forming polymeric chains, thereby stabilizing the crystal structure.
