İlkokul Öğretmenlerinin Bedensel Cezaya İlişkin Tutumları İle Karakter Eğitimi Yetkinlikleri Arasındaki İlişki

Abstract

Bu çalışma ilkokul öğretmenlerinin bedensel cezaya ilişkin tutumları ile karakter eğitimi yetkinlikleri arasındaki ilişkiyi incelemek amacıyla yapılmıştır. Araştırmaya 2014-2015 eğitim-öğretim yılında Adana ili merkez ilçelerinde görev yapmakta olan 102 bayan, 99 erkek olmak 201 ilkokul öğretmeni katılmıştır. Araştırma tarama modelinde olup betimsel bir nitelik arz etmektedir. Araştırma problemine bağlı olarak veriler nicel veri toplama yöntemi ile toplanmıştır. İlkokul Öğretmenlerinin bedensel cezaya ilişkin tutumlarını belirlemek amacıyla Gözütok (1993) tarafından Türkçeye çevrilen ve 47 maddeden oluşan Bedensel Cezaya İlişkin Öğretmen Tutum Ölçeği kullanılmıştır. İlkokul Öğretmenlerinin karakter eğitimi yetkinlik duygusunu ölçmek için de Milson Ve Ekşi (2003) tarafından geliştirilen öğretmenlerin 'Karakter Eğitiminde Yetkinlik Duygusu' adlı ölçek kullanılmıştır. Öğretmenlerin cinsiyet ve kıdem ile ilgili bilgiler araştırmacı tarafından hazırlanan 'kişisel Bilgi Formu' ile toplanmıştır. Araştırma verilerinin analizinde Pearson Korelasyon testi, T testi ve OneWay ANOVA testlerinden yararlanılmıştır. Gruplar arasındaki farkı belirleyebilmek için Tukey testi kullanılmıştır. Araştırma bulguları ilkokul öğretmenlerinin bedensel ceza tutumları ve karakter eğitimi yetkinlik tutumları arasında anlamlı bir ilişki olmadığını göstermektedir. Ayrıca ilkokul öğretmenlerinin bedensel cezaya yönelik tutumlarının cinsiyet değişkenine göre anlamlı bir farklılık olmadığı, kıdem değişkenine göre anlamlı farklılık olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Kıdem seviyesi yüksek olan öğretmenlerin bedensel cezaya yönelik tutumlarının daha az olduğu görülmektedir. İlkokul öğretmenlerinin karakter eğitimi yetkinlik tutumlarının cinsiyet değişkeni açısından anlamlı bir farklılık olmadığı tespit edilmiştir. Ayrıca ilkokul öğretmenlerinin karakter eğitimi yetkinlik tutumlarının kıdem değişkeni açısından da anlamlı bir farklılık olmadığı tespit edilmiştir. Elde edilen bu bulgular literatür kapsamında yorumlanarak, yöneticilere ve diğer araştırmacılara bazı önerilerde bulunulmuştur. Anahtar kelimeler: Bedensel ceza, Karakter eğitimi, Öğretmen

The purpose of the study is investigating relationship between corporal punishment attitudes and character education competency of teachers. The research was conducted by 201 primary school teachers (102 Female, 99 Male) who work at central districts of Adana in 2014-2015 academic year. The study was prepared as a descriptive survey model. Data was obtained on the basis of the research problems as quantitative data collection techniques. The Corporal Punishment Teacher Attitude Scale which was adapted to Turkish by Gözütok (1993) and consists of 47 items was used to measure the corporal punishment attitudes level of primary school teachers. The Character Education Competency Emotion Scale which was developed by Milson and Ekşi (2003) was used to measure the character education competency level of primary school teachers. Data about gender and length of service were collected by Demographic Information Form developed by the researcher. The data was analysed by Pearson Correlation test , T test and OneWay ANOVA. Tukey test was used to determine the difference between the groups. The research findings Show that there is no significant relationship between the corporal punishment attitude level and the character education competency level of teachers. Besides this, the research findings Show that there is no significant differences between the corporal punishment attitude levels of teachers according to gender. However it is found that there is significant differences between the character education competency level of teachers according to the length of service. Research results show that teachers who have high length of service have less level of the corporal punishment attitude. The research findings show that there is no significant differences between the character education competency levels of teachers according to gender and length of service variables. The research findings have interpreted on the basis of literatures and made suggestions to the school managers and researchers. Key Words: Corporal punishment, Character Education, Teacher
